What are peoples' experiences of permanent hair straightening?

My friend has thick hair with some colour in it, and would like it permanently straightened. Can anyone recommend a salon in London?

I had my hair chemically straightened in South Korea. Sorry I haven't got a reccommendation in the UK. My experience is that is was great - I have very thick hair, I had it coloured after the straightening.

I experienced no problems. It was great, when I went swimming I didn't have to worry about my hair going into a frizz/curl ball!

I cannot recommend a hairdressers in the UK though. I now use GHD irons which are great and work as a temporary measure! Since using them, they do help 'train' your hair to be straighter!

If you find a good hairdresser - go for it!! I had no regrets!

hi ive had my hair perminatly straigtened but i did it myself as i had really thick hair but it doesnt really come out as good as you think i still have 2 stra8en mine once/twice a day my hair is also coloured but you can not use the permanent hair straightening untill 2 weeks after you have died hair so if she has just died it wait 2 week if she wants to dye it wait 2 weeks after the permanent st8en but it is cheaper do it your self it cost me 鎷?5 from boots the hairdressers will be ALOT more my friends what 100 and something pounds! ne way soz if it doesnt help

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. You can get the hair chemically straightened or there is that Japanese straightening system although it's expensive and not suitable for Afro hair.

i know someone who had it done ;) her hair was really frizzy and too be honest, it still is! she said she still has to straighten it every day!? i thought the whole ideo of it being *permanent* was that you DIDN'T have to straighten it again...i was going to have mine done but the hairdresser said that it can make your hair fall out :S and especially if you have it done young (i'm 15) it can completely ruin your hair. i would tell your friend that she'd be wasting her money ;) where's the sense in haveing it done *permanently* only for you to carry on straightening it as normal anyway!? i think you'll find there isn't one ;) x

It was crap! Hair went curly at next wash LOL :D

me and my friend did it and i have thin blonde hair and she has thick dark hair. mine went straightish but very frizzy. hers worked really well, but she had no colour on it. you should wait for a few weeks after getting it coloured before getting it straightened.

most places ca do it but the only thing is is that when its growing out, the top bit grows back bushy or curley, like it was before the straightening.

it also damages hair folicles and can cause it to fall out
