I have wavy hair. Will chemically straightening it make it completely straight?

I've heard from others that chemically straightening doesn't work too well. But I don't have curly hair. Just pretty wavy. Will it work properly?

I am a licenced Cosmetologist and I am iffy about Chemical Straighteners. I've done several of these services. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It really just depends on your hair and how it takes to it. Most of the time, if the hair is just wavy, it works just fine. But after time the wave will eventually start to come back. Plus, when your hair grows back, your new growth will be wavy.

Most of the girls I do straighten still have to style their hair.... they can't just air dry.. They need to blow dry and flat iron to keep it smooth looking.

If you really want it done, it should help... but make sure you don't do it yourself. Chemical Straightners have a very high PH and can FRY your hair if they aren't used properly! DON'T TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF! PLEASE! Have your stylist do it... she can get the product on faster and more evenly and can monitor it's process better than you could to yourself! Your results will be better!

It didn't work for me. It took some of the waves out, but I still have to spend the same amount of time straightening the waves that were left.

It depends on how long your stylist keeps the chemical on before washing it off. Let your stylist know that you want your wavy hair to be completly straight so he/she knows how long to keep it on. However, a lot of people who chemically straighten their hair still use a flat iron or blow dryer to get it completly straight.

Yes but you still need to style it. Try getting a relaxant - it is not so bad for your hair and practically the same.

a friend of mine did that and it didnt work completely. She still had to sit there and straighten some of it out.

No. I have pretty curly hair, and I got it chemically straightened... I still had to blow-dry my hair every morning to get it REALLY straight.
