Does straightening your hair everyday damage it in the long run?

I have thick and ugly natural hair and i straighten it to perfection every single day! My mom keeps telling me i'm ruining my hair...Does straightening it really ruin it?!

yes it burns it and causes split ends

yes, you should use heat protectant spray (so many brands have it and you can find them at any department store/grocery store.) because it will burn your hair. tips are if you have to go over one spot twice avoid the ends of your hair and just straighten the middle. also never straighten your hair when its wet unless you have a special straightener for that. straightening your hair does cause split ends, so you should get your hair trimmed every few weeks so that they dont get really big, because the more you wait the more they split. good luck!

i have seen people's hair that strighten it every day and after a while i noticed little white ends on there hair from the burining of the strightner. i have the exact same hair as u and all i do is just try to strighten it every other day. also i think if you cut off the burn split ends every so often it wont matter in the long run.

Yes, it really does. Ive straightend mine for years, it got pretty dry and broke a lot. I don't straighten it every single day now. I would suggest you try to stop doing it every day. Maybe a couple times a week. If you decide to keep straightening it every day, make sure to use a heat protection spray. I use a brand called "TRESemme", it works very well for straightening, curling, etc.

It depends on the straightener to some extent. If its 400 degrees and your using it every day, yes it will most definately dry out your hair, causing more breakage and split ends. If you plan on continuing to straighten it, make sure to use a product like Tresemme's Heat Tamer protective spray in your hair before you straighten which will protect your hair from heat damage. (That's what I use and it makes my hair soft and shiny too.) Also make sure to use a moisurizing shampoo and CONDITIONER!!!!! I would suggest a leave-in conditioner meant to moisturize about every once a week or so, as well.

Hope I helped!
