Do those hair straightening chemicals at the stores really work?

My friend bought chemicals to straighten her hair and hers worked ok (she had dark brown hair) then she did her sister's. Her sister had blonde highlights through her hair and the chemicals re acted with the bleech and made her hair curl even more. I asked my hair dresser about it and she said dont do it with chemicals at home. I think its better to be safe than sorry.

yes i got some they made my hair super straight, but it felt like straw i wouldnt reccommend it unless your hair HAS to be straight for something.

Do those hair straightening chemicals at the stores really work?

O NO please don't buy!! I bought one of those kits from an infomerical 2 years ago thinking it would b the answer to my prayers (i have REALLY curly hair which doesn't fit my face at all...) well anyways...as soon as I got it I opened the box and theres warnings all over everything that says the products may cause significant hair loss...if you want to get your hair chemically straightened please go to a salon...it takes a long time and can be pricey but you rarely have to worry about going bald.

the ones they sell at drugstores work a little, but not very well and they burn like 3 times more than if you get it done at a salon. IF you get it done at a salon it will cost more, but it will hurt less and last longer, so it's really not worth it to try to do it yourself.

it whitens the hair

Well...I really haven't done it myself...so...I recomend you go to a salon...because the people there really know what is good for your hair.

Because if you do it yourself, and you mess up...there's no going back!!!!.

At least in my country, going to a salon to get your hair chemically straight only cost $65 dollars...so, it's not that much.

Do those hair straightening chemicals at the stores really work?

Yes they work, but at a price. They're cheap and easy to do, so you have straight hair, but a lot of people get dried or frizzy hair along with it. Sometimes, if you use the right shampoo and conditioner set to go along with it, it would be the same price as getting it straighted by a pro.

I tried...it didn't work.

But, I also have such mind of their own curls a straighting iron won't even straighten my hair.

Do those hair straightening chemicals at the stores really work?

no!!!!!only those ones that r really expensive

I have REALLY curly, fine, and thin hair. I have tried many things throughout my life to straighten my hair (I'm 49). I've even ironed my hair on the ironing board! (DON'T try this!) The relaxers in the store do relax your hair somewhat. But they are indeed are very drying. The other answerers are correct, your hair will feel like straw, and when new hair grows it grows in curly; so it's really funky looking. I have "straightened" my hair with straightners many times. I am not doing it any more.

What is really nice nowadays is there are so many products you can apply to get curly hair to be more manageble and less frizzy. We didn't have this stuff when I was young! Curly hair can actually look and feel nice now!

My new hairdresser has actually made my hair perfectly straight by blow drying it with these new products applied; I had normal people hair! However, she cautions that the heat from the blow dryer would also make my hair very dry , so doing that all the time would not be good for my hair. Besides, it shocks everyone anyways. My Kindergarten students don't like my hair straight!

One thing I did when I was younger, and it was cheap; at night, I'd use the stretchy headbands and wrap my hair in them, like a ponytail, all the way down to the end of my hair. My hair was straighter in the morning. This works better with thicker hair than mine. My sister still does this with her thicker hair.

If you have curly hair, find a hairdresser that KNOWS curly hair to help you. Sometimes you can find helpful ones at beautician schools.

Also, the new types of products I use are expensive, but they last a long time.

The Answer is Yes ..Professionally Speaking, A better Question would be "How" those hair straightening CHEMICALS can straighten your hair off your head....Remember this,,,"Chemicals Require A PROFESSIONAL Every Time"...

Do those hair straightening chemicals at the stores really work?

They really work great at RUINING your hair!!!!!!

I work in a hairsalon and see many many people end up w/ hardly any hair after using them. They end up having to have most of their hair cut off because the hair usually turns to mush and once the hair reaches that state the only thing to do to save it is chop it off.

I don't understand why people think that they can buy a product at a drug store and get professional results. It usually looks like crap when done and than you end up having to hair it corrected which usually ends up costing way, way more than if you would have went to a professional from the beginning. Also don't you think if those products were so great they would be the products professionals would use in salons?

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, I'm just being truthful w/ you.

Hairstylist of 9 yrs.
